Should you be worried about Identity Theft?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website estimates that almost 9 million people in the US are victims of identity fraud annually. That’s 25,000 each and every day! A report published by the FTC estimated that on average, victims of the “New Accounts and Other Frauds” form of ID Theft spent 60 hours and $1,200 resolving their ID Theft problems. Once your identity is stolen, it can take years to repair your good name. The majority of this type of ID theft can be eliminated by placing a credit freeze on your credit agency files. For a nominal one time fee of $9.99, we can help you do this quickly, accurately, and efficiently. See our "In the News" page for links to the FTC website and reports.
What credit agencies may not want you to know.
39 States passed laws requiring credit agencies to freeze your credit records upon request. As a result, the agencies decided to offer this service in all 50 states. States have different fees and stipulations based on the laws that were passed.
The credit agencies are not actively advertising this service. They would rather sell you more expensive ongoing services such as fraud alerts, monthly credit reports, and reporting scores than a service which locks others out from obtaining your credit records. We are not discouraging you from using their other services; we’re trying to make you an educated consumer.
Is it easy to unfreeze my credit file once it's frozen?
Yes. Between 5 and 10 business days after submitting your credit freeze request, each agency will send you a personal pin number and easy to follow instructions to unfreeze your credit files. They can be unfrozen temporarily or permanently depending on your need.
Can I freeze my credit file myself without eCreditFreeze's help?
Absolutely. But it requires that you perform your own research on what's required by each agency and the method in which that information is delivered to them. Because 39 states passed laws governing this process, lobbyists on both sides of the table had their own agenda. The consumer lobbyists tried to make it as easy for the consumer as possible. This was at odds with the credit agencies. The result is a quagmire of rules which must be followed at a state level for a credit freeze to be put into effect. For example, some state laws require that the letters must be sent by registered mail to all three agencies. In other states, one agency may require a certified letter, another regular mail, and the third a phone call. There are literally hundreds of combinations of rules that we have built into our system to make it fast and easy for customers to quickly and easily enact a freeze on their credit files at all three agencies. We do this for a one-time fee of just $9.99, guaranteed.
Does eCreditFreeze have competition?
Yes. Many companies, including the three credit agencies, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, offer this service along with other services. Most of them charge an ongoing monthly fee. Many of our larger competitors charge a monthly fee that is more than our entire service fee. We are not discouraging you from evaluating the other credit protection service offerings. Our goal is to make you an educated consumer and pick the best product at the lowest cost to meet your particular needs.
